Audio Description

Narrated description of on-screen action, written into the natural gaps in dialogue for blind and low-vision audiences.

Audio Description at SM Media

Audio description is a second narration track that tells a blind or low-vision viewer what is happening on screen — the action, the setting, the expressions, the on-screen text — placed in the spaces between the existing dialogue.

The craft is in the writing and the timing. Description has to be economical enough to fit the available gaps, specific enough to carry the scene, and neutral enough to stay out of the way of the story. We write, voice, record and mix the description track, and deliver it either as a separate stem or as a complete described mix.
